What is a Disc Brake Caliper?

The braking system is one of the most important safety features on any vehicle. If any part of the braking system is not working properly, a vehicle may not stop when it needs to, potentially putting its passengers in a dangerous situation.

Brake calipers are a major part of that system, working together with the brake pads and rotors to stop the vehicle smoothly and efficiently. When the brake pedal is pressed, the hydraulic system extends the piston in the caliper, forcing the brake pads to squeeze around the rotor and slow the spinning wheel.

Due to constant heat, friction, and exposure to the elements, a brake caliper can eventually become worn or damaged. A worn out disc brake caliper is a safety issue that needs to be dealt with immediately in order to restore the vehicle to a road-worthy condition.
