Power door lock switches are located inside the vehicle, usually on each of the front doors, though they can sometimes be found on rear passenger doors, the rear hatch, or even the centre console.
When the lock button or switch is pressed, it sends a signal to the door lock actuators to lock or unlock the doors. These switches are not a part of regular maintenance, and should last a long time, however they can occasionally fail due to damage, water, rust, or due to normal wear and tear.
In many vehicles the door lock switches are assembled together with the power window switches as a complete unit.
